But even if Zionism's primary benefactors happen to be Jews, the movement itself was founded not by Jews, but by Christians motivated partly by guilt about the Holocaust & partly by their desires to expunge their own native Jewish populations.
It wasn't until the end of WW2 that the ideology of Zionism was adapted by Jewish leaders such as Theodore Herztl & David Ben Guiron as the foundation for a standalone Jewish homeland, that culimnated in the founding of the state of Israel in 1948.
