- Embed this notice@hyolo I go to significant lengths to avoid saying untrue things in interpersonal context. I can't remember the last time I said a white lie. I navigate this by being empathetic and saying true things.
One example the article gave was a kid with giving you their art. I would say "I love that you made this and we're going to put it on the fridge."
I would tell a lie to prevent an innocent person from being punished but that isn't prosocial exactly. I still wouldn't like it but I would evaluate the damage of each outcome and make a choice.
It really doesn't matter to me if prosocial lying demonstrates empathy, I think that lying comes with risk.
As a side note I can't really rectify that with trolling on the Fediverse except that it's not interpersonal and it isn't about something important. But it's still got the problems I mentioned. Maybe one day I will grow out of it.
