The version on the left was our initial attempt. It has two issues:
- he looks too much like he could beat you up
- he looks like has a manual job, like moving crates in a warehouse
None of the above is true for this character.

We then tried a few things, and the one that did the trick was making him smile less. The goatee makes him look too much like a parody. The pirate shirt, on the other hand, makes him look more like a bartender, which he actually is, so we'll keep it.
