forresti've thought about this, some. i think it's because the internet (especially social media) creates bubbles of extremism for every ideology, so it's not an accurate representation of what to expect in fleshy human interaction. by this theory, Mastodon is more akin to a perpetual X-rights rally rather than a "i'm going to some random social function with friends."
