I got roped into it because I was talking to the "old guard" after I moved a year ago and I told them I'm I hobbyist musician. They said the contemporary service needed a bass player more than anything, and I was hesitant at first. I thought it was the hokiest shit, a cruel mockery of what should be, but after a couple of weeks, I'm up there and I'm really feeling it. I'm not just singing the songs, I'm helping to make them happen for ~50 people. Whatever hangups about "this isn't what they did 500 years ago" melt away at that moment. You stop worrying about that stuff, you're an imperfect conduit for God's message at that point. Jonah getting coughed out of the whale at Nineveh.
