CJ BellwetherKid Creole and the Coconuts never broke the US, even though they were a Brooklyn band. All down to the fact radio stations and then MTV didnt know what genre they were - they werent Rock enough, not Funk enough, not R&B enough.. so they just didnt get played. But they were the coolest things most people in the UK and Europe had ever heard so broke through over here because most of us hadnt heard anything so cool before.
