Backup and supplement. Running the house directly off the genset is annoying because it's undersized and the light flicker like crazy. This, adding a buffer, increases fuel efficiency and when I'm not using all the power available from it, stores it in the battery inside.

I run this engine off used motor oil so it's practically free (except for of course the maintenance on the engine itself)
