My last name comes from an Irish family who came to the US in 1847 to escape the famine — the same year the Choctaw sent their financial support to Ireland.
I do not hear of refugees anywhere today without remembering that I too am descended from refugees, and am alive now because of those who were kind to my ancestors in their time of need.
