This reminds me of a conversation I had early in my career during a project crunch:

BOSS: We’re asking the team to come in on Saturday to get the project on track

ME: Um, OK, when should I take the weekday off to make up for it?

THEM: We don’t do comp time

ME: And I don’t work weekends, but I’m sure we can work something out

THEM: [flustered]

(Spoiler: they did in fact do comp time.)

Employers keep thinking they’re the only ones with negotiating power.
