@prefec2 I think many Europeans fail to understand the scope of the problem.
A typical European city can be significantly improved by just removing cars and devoting funds and space to the alternatives.
If you did that in most of the US, people would starve.
It's very different when there's no city centre (just a "CBD"), over 90% car modeshare, all wealth and good school are in suburbia, highways crisscross the city, strict Euclidean zoning and parking requirements strangle development, etc.
