tinydoctorI suspect the human ability to believe impossible stuff against evidence is a hard wired (i.e. genetically determined adaption), an inherited survival trait. Like all survival traits bequeathed to us by natural selection, it doesn't necessarily promote the survival of individuals. Some people lack the gene; a resevoir against the possibilility that belief becomes unsurvivable.
