There is literally an entire office of the Department of Defense devoted completely to screening movie scripts that talk about the US military and changing them to remove negative connotations. They mostly use access to American military locations and hardware as the carrot that gives them the "right" as a "stakeholder" to do this - but if you go off the grid and just make your own movie, they'll pressure your studio to change the scripts too.
