Paul Cantrell@datarama The point of my post above about the 19th century is that your concert-centric vision (“The spectacle, the joy of seeing a skilled performer applying their skills, the social context”) is a very specific view of what music is for — not the only one, but so dominant currently that it’s hard for us to imagine the alternatives.
