The reason I believe this at least partially true is that right wing propaganda is built on truth.

Those agents who are millennial or older grew up in America before it was so declined. Even if it's a 'BIPOC lesbian' FBI agent, she knows in her heart that the world is worse in practically every area than it used to be. People machiavellian enough to embrace the "f you, I got mine" attitude without the intelligence level required to also fake THAT are useless against 130 IQ+ autists who hate them. Those with the higher IQ have a very real chance of faking their loyalty and consequently are vulnerable to memetic propaganda based on truth.
