@Moon @McMongoose @lanodan getting pedantic but the female reproductive system has a store of ovocytes frozen in P1, one at a time (ovulation) advances to M2 and doesn't complete meiosis until after fertilisation.
The term "egg cell" is erroneously abridged to "egg" when that should also include amnios and placenta in a self contained package.
