@adiz @yogthos @geekysteven One of the things a lot of people, especially communists and socialists, seem to conveniently forget these days is we don’t live under capitalism. Not really. We live in some bastardized Venn diagram of capitalism, cronyism, corporatism, fascism and socialism.
This unholy fusion is causing almost all of the rot of today. You can see it in everything you do: You go to work to earn capital but lost 1/3rd or more immediately, before you even earn a paycheck. Then you go to the one store you have in your town because all the small business has been regulated out of existence to spend what meager earnings you have left after whatever apartment block you were forced to live has taken a large chunk of what you have left, only to pay even more in taxes to buy the food. You go down to the ballot box (if that’s not what you have in your country, you’re luckier than most) to vote for the guy who said “I’m going to change everything!” only to find out not a week later he doesn’t give two fucks about you only the person who puts the most money in his pockets.
You then complain to your local, state or federal government only to be told there is nothing they can do while they surely wring their hands. Not in any concern for you but at all the money they are raking in. You rush them only to be taken down by you local law enforcement and brutally beaten. If you’re lucky you’ll avoid a prison sentence, but probably not.
It’s sad to see so many people who should really know better blaming capitalism and capitalism alone for the problem, when they should all know damn well what we have can’t even be qualified as capitalism anymore, and whatever role capitalism plays in the whole debacle is simply one part of the pie.
