Long time user of the Debian-provided GitLab packages here, I tend to see this as the only sane method to self-host GitLab.

While I am ready to trust GitLab Inc. for the development and the maintenance of GitLab itself, I would rather put my trust into Debian maintainers for all the other software that comes with it: PostgreSQL, nginx, the gazillion Ruby and JavaScript libraries, etc.
