This effectively leaves you with the choices of a few CLI clients (self explanatory), Gajim (I refuse to use it again after it managed to hang my i7-8700k desktop for a full minute accessing messages, on top of already pulling in Python and GTK and a bunch of other undesirable things), Psi+ (Russian ??????, OK if you like the old AIM style UX but lack of dark mode makes it a non starter for me), Dino (GNOME), Conversations (mobile only and simultaneously the only truly decent one on this list) and probably some others I'm forgetting either because they're not widely used or they're simply too new to support what is expected of a modern client.
