@thomasfuchs On the other hand, my 65 Mustang has a continuous solid shaft going from the steering wheel to the steering box. This has given it the name spearomatic for its tendency to impale drives in front end collisions.

There are ways to avoid this mechanically and I have a strong preference for well designed (and well maintained) mechanical solutions for basic things like brakes and steering.
