@io @toba @mcc Agreed, and I don’t think there’s a contradiction here.

It makes no sense for, say, bicycles to be built to Space Shuttle specs. That serves nobody. It also makes no sense to build a Space Shuttle out of bicycle parts.

Whose needs are met, which problems get solved, who is operating at the functional margins — these are social questions, and they are the big underlying questions of tech. We don’t get to opt out of them.
