One of the reasons many people perceive Mastodon as boring is because a lot of the design decisions are about reducing conflict.
These design decisions go so far to severely hamper basic human discourse; namely the unreliable replies (people on different servers often see different replies) and not having quote posts.
Conflict (if it isn't abusive) is, well, a thing in human communication. It's often intellectually stimulating and in the end fruitful.
