Do you already have opinions on how the job should be done, and it's just a matter of getting them to decide on things?

If so, decide yourself, and email them your plans. You can start off soft with stuff like: "I'm thinking about doing X or Y. I'll start doing X tomorrow unless you tell me otherwise."

If they never tell you otherwise, after a while you can just say "I'm doing X."

If you don't know how to do the work or what work needs to be done, that a much bigger problem. 🤔
