Maybe it does, but the study you linked was weak, to say the least. It also lackss follow up results to show permanence. Furthermore, it didn't account for whether the virus actually caused this in all cases or only in those who die, and given the completely healthy 30 something year old dude who died of CO poisoning in that study, I frankly think it's just methodologically flawed and wouldn't have gained any traction in normal years. That's speculation because I admittedly stopped effort on it when I read they did a "dude trust us it's a COVID death" post mortem swab or a healthy young man who died of CO poisoning.
