The most interesting ramification of the ousting of Sam Altman is that OpenAI's vision of AI is incompatible with Microsoft. OpenAI's goal is a "system that outperforms humans at most economically valuable work" (i.e. eliminate most knowledge worker jobs) while Microsoft's vision of AI is to use it to augment human capabilities.
These long term visions imply different short term priorities. It seems clear that while Microsoft and Altman were aligned on what those were, OpenAI's board was not.
