I was in a creative writing program at first. I went to the largest school in Texas. At the time, one of the most well respected schools. Listen to this...I was not allowed to take "videogame scriptwriting," "fantasy writing," "science fiction," etc.
When I say, as a creative writing major, I "wasn't allowed to take them," I mean it. I could sign up for the class, pay for it, do the work, and it wouldn't go towards my credits or gpa...not even as an elective. I would've simply been giving them money. You know what classes they absolutely wanted creative writing majors taking? "Queer Literature," "Literature of Latin America," "African American Literature," "Women's Literature," etc. So, I kind of dropped the idea of writing entirely. I think about it at times, but where would it even go aside from a hobby that most people think is gay.
