I want to argue against this because no decent human being has a blind spot for a wildly running lawnmower near a baby, yet plenty of people take the NOTMYDOGGO approach and leave their pitbulls or other dogs off a leash. A golden retriever puppy weighing 50 lbs jumped on one of my kids when they were two and they're still scared of all dogs years later. The child didn't know it was trying to jump up for a kiss, and the dog reacts with more kisses. Had the dog had a more fighting temperament, which a lot of pits and other breeds have, it could have turned into play/real biting using my child's arm or face as a toy. The prevalence of pitbull ownership by people who shouldn't have a dog and don't know how to raise a dog creates problems. The quality of the genetic stock for pits is also an issue, because the potential for getting a "fighting dog" is definitely there, especially from ignorant low effort owners. I'm talking about people who just put their dog on a chain or runner and never walk it, properly train it, never clip its nails, never bother with any of the basics of proper dog raising. They often choose pitbulls, and I don't know why. Maybe in the 90s they'd have had Dobermans and Rottweilers.
