To not use a company provided computer to make money because they use proprietary software is a very peculiar thing. If he can make it on his own, great! I'm simply reminding him that eventually he'll be out of money and, possibly out of a home and shelter from covid or other things. A compromise on one of these two positions will inevitably happen; either he begrudgingly accepts remote employment from the ever-shrinking supply even if it requires he use closed source programming, or he relaxes his attitude towards COVID.
