@thomasfuchs I'm not an American and certainly not a constitutionalist, but keep in mind that the framers of the constitution had a problem to solve: to asynchronously magnify a potentially small difference in votes to a definitive mandate to govern. In hindsight, it generates some unpleasant distortions in today's polarised and synchronous world, but it was a robust mechanism that delivered a governing executive for several centuries. Don't be too harsh just because it deserves to be revisited.
