Limited brightness is a limitation of CCFL backlit LCD's but really the dimming could be due to the age of such display (as fluorescent lamps slowly get dimmer over time until there's barely any light).

There is still a bunch of LED backlit displays in the right side and FPD-Link connector floating around - the difficulty is finding such displays.
