Yeah, the third-party ones seem to have a lot more options and faster pace of development.
There wasn't even an official app until last year, it was only added because so many new people expected there to be one.
Historically Mastodon has relied on third-party apps, and as it's an open platform the third-party apps have just as much access to Mastodon's features. The official apps don't have any kind of special privileges.
Would strongly recommend trying third-party apps 👍
