Verdict: Accidental manslaughter.

Evidence -

1) Video. When you play it in slowmo, you can see that he raise his foot, extended, because he saw he was about to impact the Johnson. It was an absolutely dumb thing to do; he should have just collided rather than focus stay upright, because he fell right after anyways.

Only an elite martial artist could perfectly time a lethal kick like that while sliding with that kind of forward momentum in another direction. I would even say that if he truly wanted to kill him on the ice, that would be one of the hardest ways to do it.

Throwing down, skating toward him and “tripping” over his neck with a blade would be far more plausible and successful.

If no death arose, however, Petgrqve should be banned from 3 games. Keep you skates below knees always. That was some dumb ass bullschitt, absolutely fuqqing unsafe.

This looks like some kid wanted to be macho on the ice, was going to make a “sportcenter moment” where he pushed Johnson back with his skate in a shielded area like the torso, maintained his balance and made a save play. That fantasy ended up turning into a 1 in a million slice to the neck. Sad.

2) Leafiness.

Canadian Blacks are not like American blacks. Quite a bit less violent than counterparts south of the border. Number crime blacks get sentenced for in Canada is drug use, not homicide. Petgrave is Canadian.

Pretty sad, but I dont think based on the video alone he intentionally did it. If it could be corroborated by some off-site beef, I would take such evidence into consideration for a murder charge.
