I don't take this interpretation the same because it's explicitly stated that it's Abraham's faith that mattered. Christ is ultimately from Abraham's seed. John 3:16, 3:18 and many other verses make it clear that it's about "whoever". That we should be expected to believe there's asterisks next to "whoever" is a problem to me. Paul preached to jews who needed things addressed to them in a jewy way. He also preached to gentiles who did not. The message is largely the same even if the specific language varies to the audience, because Paul was obviously a learned and intelligent man who knew that you tailor your message to your audience.
