I’m far from a LaTeX expert, but in my limited experience Overleaf provided a better editing experience by abstracting away the LaTeX markup, but it was still available in a specific view.

When I’ve used LaTeX tools locally before, this has always been a bit messy, with markup visible during editing. Maybe I was just using the wrong tools.

Overleaf also has the accessible from anywhere online and collaborative aspects, if that’s important to you.
