...The reason I'm asking is that her primary source, a US history prof, tells her, that even many of her colleagues didn't know about this huge crisis of the US political system and the fascist take-over attempt.

I wonder if it finally has become mainstream (student) knowledge again, b/c it was front-page news in the 1940s.
