Strong agree here. Even if developers aren’t making a big design decisions and aren’t the ones researching the problem domain or the product strategy, there are still a million small missteps a developer can make without a healthy sense of context — and also developers are often the first to be in the position to spot when big underlying assumptions are wrong, or that the whole experience just isn’t going to make sense.
