Sounds interesting and is not counter-intuitive.

Don't have the time to read the long paper, but glanced through it. Was looking for a country comparison.

My hypothesis would be that the direct democry of Switzerland should fare significantly better in these respects.

Would be very interesting to see, as we now have the tools to have a direct form of democracy in large countries.
