I'm in a situation right now where I have a VM that I need to pause a database/index service and run a backup as quickly as possible, but it's like 800GB and I can't LVM snapshot because the OS image/template didn't use LVM...

I could have scripted it to take a snapshot, mount the filesystem somewhere, read the data from there, unmount, destroy snapshot
