Pragmatic viewpoint i can agree with.
But the truth is, we are social animals. Communities *will* affect my opinion on things they gather around, even if i dont want.
And in programming, knowledge sharing and such is very important. When starting out, one may wish to join a community around The Thing.
If that community makes me feel ashamed about being associated with it, i'll rather avoid it.
The social aspect around tools is real thing, which is easy to dismiss but pragmatism can only do so much for our emotions and how we perceive things.
