@smallcircles@social.coop But that is the use case of this "new" technology. It's going a step backwards so it can become less local so it can be crammed into more user-hostile environments. That's the entire end-goal of WASM. We already have a local-first environment where we can run local-first applications in the way the user desires, and it's not in the web-browser.
I'm "bringing things into the discussion" because they are relevant but conveniently ignored. Cramming ffmpeg in your browser through a convoluted process which introduces just more obfuscation and makes it much harder to control is not a step forward. Pretending it is will not lead to a better future.
