I'm pretty happy to have control over this aspect of my life again, even if it comes at a cost. Mom's shopping habits wasted a lot of food. I'm intrigued by the challenge of shopping frugally with less waste.
Since I don't have a car, I have to make plans for heavier items, like the 5-lb bags of King Arthur Bread Flour I want on hand. Mom drove me so crazy in the kitchen, I cooked far less than when I lived alone. Sometimes I'd go out to eat just to get away from her hovering and interference. I look forward to cooking more this winter than I have in 10 years.
