I'm proposing an opt-in system that yes, is centralized, but isn't required.

You do realize the translation features and several others are centralized right? They aren't necessary, but provide a valuable tool or service.

It's all about making compromises when appropriate, and an opt-in service that helps detect spam or abuse isn't that bad if you ask me.
