@Fuzzbizz yeah it's a totally different situation in Amsterdam.
You could live in a newer (and much cheaper) city like Almere and easily commute into Amsterdam by train. It's not as pretty as old cities, but you'd still be able to live somewhere with good urbanism and lots of local amenities.
That option is not available to you in Canada. It's "drive 'til you qualify", and you will absolutely be living somewhere car dependent and spending multiple hours per day driving.
