I frankly don't find the sandbox google play services argument convincing, except for the sake of greater compatibility with a very narrow selection apps that don't work with MicroG yet.
My knowledge of Android is admittedly quite rudimentary, but I find it alarming that when I install Google Maps with zero permissions, it already has my account info (which it's getting from google play)
