There’s a whole tourism-charity industry that’s rich suburbanites pretending to help by erecting a single house in a village, building a “school”, all these non-projects that only exist to be background sets for their selfies.

They talk a big game about how much they wanna live like a native, until they find out just how far down that rabbit hole goes. Full on breakdowns stripping in the street, screaming their head off kinda stuff. Pretty funny.

But they paid well enough. I used to charge $100 a head for “onboarding” which is basically catching them at the local airport and figuring out their travel arrangements, then clearing a place for them. Like, 3 hours of work for a whole lot of jungle money
