- Wayland compositors do compositing on the GPU, so it's not some slow shit like you can experience on X11
- With that said, fullscreen applications can be accelerated even more via GPU planes to get something that's AFAIK virtually undistinguishable from "no compositor/WM" except stuff like alt-tab and multi-monitor will just work
