Fun fact, new NVMe standards added support for indicating that a drive is based on "rotational media", because it turns out it's cheaper to build systems based on PCIe rather than SATA/SAS, since it turns out that you don't need expensive HBA's that way. So it's likely that hyperscalers will start using PCIe hard drives in a year or two, and they might come to consumers in a couple more.
