We can generate hydrogen super easily and its storage, while volatile, doesn't have the dangers of lithium or other battery tech. The cool advancements in electric motors work just great via fuel cells provided we can get them to the right size. I'm picturing nanogalvanic alloy powder with an exhaust system that goes back into the fuel tank to deposit most of the water emissions for reuse. That would allow a controlled rate of reaction and effectively the lightest possible low pressure tank.
