Honestly, I am not sure that is the correct interpretation given other things Jesus said:

Luke 6
>27But to you hearing I say: Love your enemies, do good to those hating you, 28bless those cursing you, pray for those mistreating you. 29To the one striking you on the cheek, offer the other also; and from the one taking away your cloak, do not withhold the tunic also. 30Give to everyone asking you, and from the one taking away what is yours, do not ask it back.

People always seem to want to make the teachings of Jesus into something they can keep, but "your God is perfect there for be perfect" is something everyone should realize is unachievable, almost like they are being warned away from the path they are trying to follow.
