maybe a different way to look at it: 'fedi' is not a unified or coherent thing which can 'have' anything (like a paedo problem or whatever). it's a collection of disparate people participating in a loosely affiliated network and naturally reflects society, so if society has a paedo problem, then fedi will have a paedo problem, but that's not an attribute of fedi specifically.
or to put it another way: does it make sense to say that 'email has a paedo problem' or 'postal mail has a paedo problem'?
(i'm not sure this analogy entirely works because fedi is much less used than email and has a particular bias in its demographics, but in principle...)
