@hj @Moon Yeah, I'd say fedi has already been a success for a while because it managed to become standalone years ago where it's not just "Twitter/*chan/IRC/… users using this weird GnuSocial thing on the side".

And the number of users doesn't really matters unless you're someone like an advertiser, what matters is for people to find existing or new friends and have fun, I'd say it's been doing pretty well on that front.
